Big Brothers Big Sisters of America National Conference, Miami Fl, June 15-18, 2009. Ann Adalist-Estrin joined researcher David DuBois and Director of Community Partnerships for BBBSA, Mark Scott and presented Quality in Amachi, a workshop for Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies serving children of the incarcerated. The Department of Youth and Community Development, The Osborne Association & the John Jay College of Criminal Justice sponsored “Achieving Their Promise: Children of Incarcerated Parents Symposium” on Thursday, June 4, 2009, at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in NYC. The symposium began with a youth panel and included a panel of New York Service providers and Funders. It concluded with an address by FCN Board member Elizabeth Gaynes. Moderated by Soledad O’Brien, NRCCFI Director Ann Adalist-Estrin particaipted in a panel discussion at the 2009 Freedom’s Voice Conference.  The conference was attended by community healthcare workers, legal and medical professionals, academics, faith-based community members, and state/local government employees (primarily from Georgia). 2008 Presentations – Selected Listing

Child Welfare League of America, 2008 On February 27, 2008, NRCCFI/FCN presented at a super session of the Child Welfare League of America’s Annual Conference (CWLA).  The session, entitled The Bill of Rights for Children of the Incarcerated: A Framework for Policy and Practice, brought together service providers, researchers, directly affected and advocates.  Presenters discussed research, best practices and on-the-ground strategies related to working with children of the incarcerated. Children’s Justice Alliance Conference The Children’s Justice Alliance (CJA) is a non-profit organization that seeks to improve outcomes for children whose parents are involved in the criminal justice system. They convened a symposium in July 2008 bringing together those that work in correctional facilities with community program staff, academicians  and policy makers to focus on both the national and Oregon perspectives on responding to the needs of children of the incarcerated.
